Sterling Shekel Pendant |
A Pendant with History! In 66CE, the Jews rebelled against Roman rule and began to mint their own coins, called Shekels, as a sign of their independence. The coin in this pendant was cast from a half-shekel, in The Jewish Museum in New York, which dates to the first year of the revolt. Both sides of the coin are visible, and it revolves. Decorated with a chalice with an ancient Hebrew inscription and a branch with pomegranates (one of the Seven Species of Israel) on either face. This is an authorized reproduction cast by the lost-wax method. Shekel itself is 5/8" in diameter, and chain is 18". Sterling Silver. Comes in gift box.
